Hello all,
My son is 3 and half years old now. He has 6-7 times of throat Infection this years. The Doctor always gives the zithromax for him to try to recover from the infection. Some doctor said we should not use the antibiotic so often as it will threaten your life when you have some serious illness. I wonder is it the true? Is it any problem to use zithromax so often? Every time it will take 3 days for the treatment. Thanks for anyone who can answer my question.
my daughter has Asthma and gets Bronchitis and respiratory infections all the time. She's allergic to penicillin, so she takes z-packs every time. When I talked to the doctor after several years of this (she's almost 9 and has had problems since she was 2), he told me that since it is the bacteria that become resistant to antibiotics, not the child, there was no danger. It can be more dangerous to use an antibiotic when you have a virus because when it is a common practice more resistant bacteria can develop and spread. It's not dangerous to one person, but to the population. If your son is truly ill and it's bacterial, it's a very safe and effective antibiotic (that is so nice because you only have to give it once a day). I wouldn't worry unless your son is not getting better in 10 days or you are worried the doctor is too quick to give him antibiotics when it could be viral.
I hope he gets well soon!
