Wisdom teeth extraction with tongue piercing?

I need my top Wisdom Teeth out(I didnt get bottom ones) and I have a tongue ring, I'm wondering if they're going to make me take it out during the procedure? If I take it out my tongue will close up, since the procedure is usually an hour and a half or so. My tongue closes up after 30 minutes! But, I have to get this done, anyone have any experience with dental work and tongue rings?
Talk to your oral surgeon. Explain that your piercing will close if you remove the jewelry for the procedure. Ask if you can wear a PTFE (plastic) barbell durring the procedure. Some surgeons want the metal removed because of equipment that may be used.

Others simply want the obstruction out of your Mouth and are worried about you aspirating the jewelry if it gets knocked loose. Explain to your surgeon that your jewelry is not any more likely to come loose durring surgery than any other time. Let them know that you are not interested in losing this piercing and choose to take the tiny, infentismally small risk of wearing your jewelry. There are a few surgeons who will refuse, but if you are an adult most will tolerate the tongue jewelry if you're adamant.

For my wisdom tooth removal, I left half of my jewelry in place. I have snakebites, a labret, and a pair of cheek piercings and a 4g tongue piercing. I removed the tongue and the snakebites since they might have actually gotten in the way and left in the cheeks and labret. I left them in place because I knew I wouldnt be capable of putting them back in after the procedure since I was being fully sedated. Apparently I put my tongue and snakebites back in while I was being given my aftercare directions, neither of which do I have any memory of whatsoever. So as a note, make sure they tell you how to care for your surgery BEFORE you are sedated.

My surgeon had the attitude that I was paying him to do the work on my teeth, and he could safely do that work with my jewelry in. He would have preferred to have it out, but since that wasn't happening, he dropped the argument. It comes down to the fact that you're paying for a service. Since that service can be done with only 1 in a million odds that anything will happen with your tongue ring, its not an unreasonable risk to tell your surgeon you will be taking.
