Treatment for Degerative Disc Disease?

What is the best treatment for DDD? I've had it for about 4 years now. I visit a physio and still lift (very carefully) in the gym. What can I do, as recently it appears to have got worse?
Hi - I don't know if this is the same as what i have. I have 3 hernias in my neck and my discs have kind of disappeared (due to osteoarthritis) leaving me with touching vertabrae at times. I've been taking Chondoitrine and Glucosomine for 3 years now and it's fabulous for reducing the pain and reducing the degeneration of the discs.
