I know where you're coming from. Let's deal first with "What to know?"
(1) Drink plenty of fluids, and avoid salty foods (anything junky, stuff the Creator didn't put on this earth). It helps the fluids to come out more quicker. Be hydrated.
(2) Before they insert the needle, just stay calm, and don't look. Think of something that brings you peace, or your favorite peaceful scene, or words from a good Book.
(3) Try and sit next to someone who seems quiet, or reasonably peaceful. You'll be sitting there for awhile, so, if you have a choice, make it a pleasant experience.
NOW -- Regarding your lifestyle.
(1) Don't make this a regular thing. It can become too easy to just get into the habit of walking into the Plasma Center and plopping your body down. Don't -- you can do more with your life.
(2) Even if you get a job at a fastfood place, you will learn more about working with others, dealing with customers, handling money, keeping a deadline -- stuff you can take with you into life.
It also will help you to get a better job, when you've proven to be a good worker at one place.
(3) Most importantly, you will feel better about yourself, when you get that first paycheck. I used to have crummy jobs, or part-time temp work -- but a job is a job.
Think about the bigger picture, bro. If you can return to high school, or get the equivalent of a high school education, you will also look back someday and feel good about your effort.
Your kids will know their dad had to struggle against tough times, but didn't give up.
As they say -- life is a journey. Take it one step at a time.
"For I know the plans that I have for you. Plans to give you a hope, and a future."
Your Heavenly Father.
