I have been given prescriptions for the following medications: Prednisone for swelling, Azythromax (antibiotic) and Vicodin for pain. I am having trouble sleeping right now, could one of the medications be the cause? Or is it because I slept so much yesterday? Will the V help me sleep? >

For Lucy, tell your husband that there is very little pain involved in the surgery and that he should get it done!

Sorry, I meant Lucky...
Azithromycin does not cause insomnia. The most common side effect of Vicodin would be drowsiness; however, some people can have a paradoxical effect to opiates like Vicodin and would have a stimulant effect. I stress that this is a VERY rare occurrence in the general population. Please, do not take opiate pain medication to help you sleep. Call your MD and request one of the medications made specifically for sleep instead.
The most likely culprit among your medications would be Prednisone. There is about a 10% incidence rate of nervous system stimulation in the general population. This is somewhat related to the dose, which you don't specify. If your MD is starting you on a large dose and stepping it down, it will not be a problem soon enough.
Then again, your insomnia may not be drug related at all. You don't say how long ago your surgery was or how much you have been sleeping since the surgery. Do what you need to do to try to stay awake during the day, so that you will be able to sleep at night.
