What can she eat, that isn't too rich and makes her Stomach sick, (she's 82 w/hbp) but will give her better fasting numbers in the morning. She has been dropping to the 80s and 70s. She keeps herself on a very rigid diet and rarely cheats. What kind of snack can she eat about 10pm that won't be too heavy for her digestive tract, but keep her sugar at a good level? She just stopped taking Junuvia because it made her very sick. She doesn't need any other Medication for her sugar levels except for this nighttime.
Please serious answers only. I'm her caregiver and Need help with this. The dr just keeps sticking samples of meds at her and they just don't work.
Protein is what I'd suggest. Some small serving of meat and cheeses. They break down a bit slower and should give her some coverage throught the night. An old, cheap easy on is a bologna and cheese sandwich.
Sugar free yogurt is good if she can tolerate the dairy at night.
An ounce or two of almonds, depending on her teeth.
70-80 mg/dL is not a bad reading, especially for fasting. Bear in mind that type 2 diabetics have the reputation for Feeling low with a normal Blood sugar, because it helps them get a bite to eat. Sneaky. This is not a conscious thing, just a Pavlov type thing. "If I feel this way, I get food." The training of the Brain is quite powerful.
If she starts dropping into the sixties and lower, of course a more carb rich snack of juice or PBJ will bring her back up fast, but it doesn't sound like it is that bad.
Med wise, take her list of blood sugars to her Doctor and ask if her PM meds need adjusted, if she is on some. I couldn't quite tell from your question.
Take care.
