My doctor told me I have very high astigmatism. What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism is where your eye is not completely circle it is shaped more like a football,i guess, it's usually not a big deal, just if you get contacts you'll have to get a special one for the eye that had the astigmatism. also you most likely will have a stronger perscription in that eye..i have an astigmatism but it's not noticeable, i just wear a stronger lenz in 1 eye than the other.
