Hi, I have a one wk old daughter who was diagnosed with Galactosemia. We, thankfully, started her on Soy formula at birth and have an apt with a specialist next wk. I am so scared! I also have a two-year-old son and he was Lactose intolerant at birth but was never diagnosed with anything. He has flair ups every so often, if he is sick but He can eat dairy now. Why would one child have it and one not if it comes from both parents. I am just really scared right now and confused. I feel so bad for my little girl. Please help.
If both parents are carriers , each child has a 25% chance of getting the disease.
A 50% chance of being a carrier and a 25% chance of not having it and not being a carrier.
I wish your family the best.
