hi!my name is chris...i just returned from a soccer game and at some point after a kick of another player my ankle hurts like crazy ....i could't even step on it and i had to use the help of my friends...it's propably an ankle sprain as they said to me...any idea of what it is and what i can do in order to stop hurting so much??????
How old are you? Is this a high school team? Do you have an athletic trainer available? If it is painful on the side you got kicked on, it is possible it is just a bruise. Whether or not it is a bruise or sprain, RICE is the initial treatment. RICE stands for Resting the body part, Icing the area for ~20 minutes several times a day, Compression of the area with an ACE wrap especially if it's swelling, and Elevation as often as possible to minimize swelling. If you have an athletic trainer (not personal trainer) available, consult them as well as a doctor. If it does not feel better with RICE and an ankle brace, rehabilitation with an athletic trainer or physical therapist can help reduce instability and the chance of injuring the area again.
