Well I was carrying a big basket of laundry on Nov. 10th & I twisted my ankle. Well a few hours later it was starting to feel better so I got up & went out to the shop with my boyfriend. Well I was standing (not even moving) & it just gave out from underneath me & twisted again. Boy did it hurt. So I layed down & I woke up the next morning & it was killing me. I looked at it & it was really swollen & black. It looked pretty gross. So my boyfriend & his dad went ahead & took me to the emergency room (since it was a Sunday). Well they took x-rays & said that I just sprained it pretty bad. They gave me some pain pills & a metal splint/boot thing & said I should wear it for a week & it should be fine. Well it's been over a month & I can walk on it & all, but if I twist it left or right or try to pop it, it hurts really bad. I mean bad. Also if I try to run it hurts bad & I just started running on treadmill 4 cardio b4 I sprained it now I can't... Should I go see my family Doctor about it?
You should probably get your family doctor to reexamine it. It doesn't sound like anything is broken. If it was sprained as bad as it sounds, then a week is not nearly enough for it to heal. It can take up to 6 weeks to completely heal. You should probably have kept weight off of it for a week, then gradually added your body weight back. Did they have you on crutches? I'm assuming not. So basically, while your ankle is healing, walking on it and using it is reinjuring it and keeping it from healing completely. But their is a chance that you have torn a ligament, so let your family doctor exam your ankle again to be sure.
