As the audiologist said hearing will only deteriorate as I get older. I'm scared.
First off, Don't be afraid. I understand that it can be scary as with any life change, but chances are you won't end up completely deaf, and more than likely you'll be able to hear well with a hearing aid. There is also the option of a cochlear implant. This is a device that is placed under the skin behind the ear. Part of the implant is external and "sticks" to the side of your head with a magnet to the portion that is inside your head. Then you have a microphone (it's about the size of a hearing aid) that goes over your ear and a small transmitter pack that is held in a purse or on your belt. It simulates hearing. There is also sign language. It's not as hard to learn as it seems and if you are loosing your hearing, more than likely, the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation in your area will help you out by paying for college classes for you to learn it. This way if you do need it, you'll have the knowledge of sign. Knowing sign and meeting and getting to know deaf people may also help to relieve some of your apprehensions about going deaf. I also have mild hearing loss, so i completely understand (i'm 26 years old by the way)
