How to Treat Torsion of the Testis in the Wilderness

Torsion of the testis is a serious medical emergency where the testis are twisted within the scrotum, cutting off Blood supply. This is painful and can "kill" the testis if not treated promptly.
Identify the signs and symptoms of torsion of the testis: sudden pain in the scrotum, reddening and Swelling of the scrotum.
Support the scrotum with a jock strap or an improvised jock strap made from a triangular bandage or a bandana. This may help to provide some blood flow to the testis.
Apply Cold packs to the scrotum.
Administer aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help with the Fever and pain.
Evacuate to a hospital within 24 hours in order to save the testis. Surgery will be required even if the testis are damaged.
