How to Relieve Mastitis

Mastitis is an inflammation in the breast tissue usually caused by a bacterial Infection through a cracked nipple. This is a common issue with Women who breastfeed their children. The ailment is very painful but, thankfully, can be easily relieved without the need for medical intervention. If left untreated, however, Mastitis can develop into a much more serious condition.
Massage gently the area of Tenderness while bathing. The warm water and massage helps loosen plugged ducts.
Alternate a warm and Cold compress on your breast.
Nurse frequently on the affected side and avoid using a mechanical pump. If the pain is too great, start on the unaffected side first.
Vary baby's position at the breast each time she feeds. Start with a position that you do not use frequently.
Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain if it is too uncomfortable.
Drink plenty of fluids, preferably water, at least 10 cups per day.
Get plenty of rest.
