How to Make Adult Medical Decisions

There are a number of occasions that make the young person remember that they are in fact an adult and it is usually in these pivotal moments, hopefully later rather than sooner, that people on both sides of the coin, need to be at their most clear headed as some of these decisions are not able to be retracted.
Take Your Best Interest into Account: You would hope that your health care professional is always acting in your best interest, but whether it is a mended joint or a pulled tooth you should always be sure that whatever they are proposing is what is in the best interest of your health. Forget money, forget any immediate pain or discomfort you may experience; what is best for your long and continued health is what should be number one in everyone?? book.
Clarification: If you are wondering about why a particular procedure leads to a certain endgame or what could be the outcome of a particular treatment and you feel like your Doctor has not adequately explained themselves, then you should always ask for further clarification. If you feel at all backed into a corner or like your hand is being forced or if you do indeed want that second opinion and your life is not in any irreparable danger, then you should take a day to consider it. If your medical dilema is, though, something that needs to be treated right away, you should always give over control to whoever is treating you.
Call Your Mother: If you always seek the advice of your mother or other parental figurehead in these precarious situations and you feel like none of the above listed tactics have worked, then you should do the obvious. If mother is not around anymore, you should call some family member, father, brother, sister, cousin, friend or someone you trust and see if they can help guide you.
Trust: With all the malpractice suits that doctors are susceptible to and with all the potential for liability that these doctors face and with all the sympathetic juries in the country today, it is pretty safe to say that whatever kind of random assemblage of events which has led you to your rash judgment of a harried, hurried doctors rush to judgment is probably not the case. Doctors and other health care professionals are so totally stressed and over worked that it is easy to understand how, if they feel they have done all they can do and there assessment is something other than the treatment you went in for, you may be liable to jump to the conclusion that they are rushing on you. But one of the adult things you learn when you are an adult is that life often does not work out as we had planned it and we must make accommodations and get on with things. If you do not believe me, call your mother.
