I have a prescription for 2 tablets of 500 mg tablets 2 every 4 hours. I have been taking it for a week. How long can I keep up this schedule before doing damage? I am also taking 3 Aleve a day. >

Also, how would I know if there has been damage? Are there any signs?
Actually, mixing the Aleve and acetaminophen (a huge part of Vicodin) will do your kidneys in before the Vicodin does your liver in. I don't like to continue at the dose you are taking more than 3-4 days, but I do not really know when liver damage starts to occur. If someone needed Chronic Pain medication, they would also need periodic liver and kidney function monitoring and that is outside the scope of the typical dental practice, because we can ALWAYS do something to alleviate the pain to get you off of the meds.
By the time you FEEL anything, there would be significant damage. Bleeding times would increase to the point where you can barely clot Blood - if at all. I know someone who died from this.
