Sinusitis is the inflamation of the air sinuses. there is usually an underlying infection that can make it acute,chronic or, often, acute on chronic.
The sinuses are air containing cavities in the bones of the skulls and are lined with a ciliated mucous membrane secreting small amount of mucous . Their openings are all found in the nasal cavities.
When there is a deviated nasal septum the openings of these sinuses are distorted and narrowed. The effect is that the sinuses can no longer empty their secreted mucous.These become infected and inflamed- SINUSITIS.
