How bad might/is a tongue piercing going to mess up your teeth?

Like chipping and such.... I was wanting a tongue piercing, but then they said that it could chip/corrode your teeth, and I have beautiful teeth and I don't want to do that if it's going to mess up my teeth. Thanks for reading... and hopefully a knowledgable answer.
Having a Tongue piercing can damage your teeth in the long run. I personally have had my tongue pierced for a while now, but I have not experienced any damage, but it doesnt mean I never will. So, If your like me and willing to risk it, go ahead. But Im also very careful and I dont play with my tongue ring much at all and trust me you will get in the habit of playing with the barbell.
