Hematoma on buttocks from IM injection?

I have developed a large hematoma on my buttocks from in IM injection. How long does it usually take for them to heal?
Depending on how deep and how large it is, you may wish to have it aspirated using a large gauge needle. I just had one removed as such by a local plastic surgeon that was on my buttock after a fall down a flight of stairs. (Note: I went to ER and they didn't even find the hematoma!)

Many will resolve on their own, but others will need to be aspirated (drained). Of those that are drained, some will return.

Healing time (as you asked) depends on size and whether the area has ever healed completely. As I mentioned, some that are drained will continue to return and form bursa. If this happens repeatedly, you would require surgery to remove the sac permanently.

I hope that this helps. They are uncomfortable and sometimes disfiguring.
