Why cant the goverment support our Doctors?
The main reason is that we Americans want it free, and we demand "the best care".
Most countries that have socialized medicine (Candada, UK, Australia, most of Eastern Europe) have cumpulsory taxes for employees to help pay for the care, and the care comes with a long wait (no appointments), and the care is not what we Americans consider "excellent medical care".
Americans would have to change their attitude about many things... including paying for what we get, and being satisfied with reasonable care even if it was not "optimum" care.
The UK also encourages privatized insurance to supplement the socialized medical care. This insurance pays for things that are not covered by the socialized medicine.
As a US citizen working in the UK, my "government medical" will not pay for my use of an insulin pump, and they opt to have me use injections instead. However, the private supplemental insurance does pay for this medical device. Working for an American company, I "demand" that this device be covered, and it is in fact covered by 95% of American insurance companys.
Then, the doctors would have to be satisfied with salaries that are not 6 figures a year. Doctors do not hold nearly the social status that they do in the US.
