I have had asthma since birth. I seam to be coming out of it 17 years later. Running is about the only thing that triggers an attack.
I signed up for the National Guard and now I dont want to have any problems. I have until November when I turn 18 to prepare myself.
Can you help??
Ask your doctor for a pulmonary function test with bronchial challenge. This is the gold standard test for asthma. There is a chance that you don't have it. I have seen many doctors who will give a diagnosis of asthma with out proper testing. The have the authority to do that however why would one not have the test done?
If the National Guard finds out, they will most likely discharge you on a medical discharge. They could even explore perjury charges. I believe you have to fill out a government form noting any medical conditions and asthma is one of the questions. If you lie about it, it could come back an bit you on the butt.
Get the PFT and hope you really don't have it.
