I understand that semen is made from blood and AIDS is sexually transmitted but how can a couple living with HIV procreate a child that is HIV negative
The semen of a person with HIV always contains the HIV virus. That doesn't mean it will always be transmitted to the partner. If the women is not infected, the baby will not be infected
Even if the mother is HIV positive, the virus is not always transmitted to the fetus. If a women is taking medication and her HIV is under good control, and the baby is given HIV medications during and after the birth, the chances of the baby being infected are only about 1%. Without medication, the chances of transmission are about 33%.
