for instances the Swelling, i have had swelling for about 6 months with moderate to severe pain, still, and weakness,
First of all, a sprain is not a muscle tear. It is a ligament tear. Secondly, staying off it for upwards of 6 weeks is not the answer. That is the last thing you want to do. What you have to look at is properly managing your injury. Generally, a ligament takes on average 8 months to totally heal. Not to say that you will not be able to ambulate pain free, it just takes a while. If it has been 6 months, you have to ask yourself what have you done to get yourself better. A proper rehab for a serious Ankle Sprain is a must. If you are still experiencing pain and swelling 6 months post, you may need to be seen by your Physician so you can be referred to an orthopaedic specialist. You may have some damage that was not properly diagnosed the first time. The ortho will then give you a script for physical therapy. An experienced PT will be able to bring you along in your rehab program that will show optimal results in as timely and efficient manner as possible. You have to commit yourself and buy in to the process and I assure you you will see reults. Sprains, strains, and broken bones are my business. Good luck.
