I was thinking I read that statins cause our bodies (livers) not to produce/ manufacture Both good cholesterol as well as bad cholesterol. now i just read advertisement about: Crestor (i may have mispelled this); If I've remembered correctly -the Crestor (a statin) is supposedly to help raise the good and also Lower our bad cholesterol! Thanks for any help. I was prescribed 10 mg. daily of generic Zocor but I've been taking only 5 mg. daily for bout 6 weeks now. I've been drinking soy milk (some days). Also, will onions help raise my Good cholesterol and will onions help lower my bad cholesterol?
All knowing "1" is right....i would definitely suggest reading the paleolithic diet. With statins they inhibit your production of good and bad cholesterol (and the HDL/good cholesterol is sooooo important for Heart Health etc.). One of the problems that can arise is that when the production of cholesterol is shut down, so is your production of hormones (because they come from cholesterol) which can create a lot of other problems in your body. Statins also decrease your CoQ10 which is a cardioprotective antioxidant that can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease. If you have High Cholesterol the best thing to do is to change your diet - one of the best diets out there is the Portfolio diet. It has been researched and had been shown to be as effective and sometimes more than statin drugs (without the awful side effects of course - and it helps to greatly rise HDL). The onions can help to lower cholesterol which is good, however you probably need to be consuming more soy than you are to have any benefit (however you're right that soy has been shown to reduce cholesterol). Statins are probably one of the worst drugs on the market i believe because they often create more problems than you start with and there are sooooo many other ways to lower cholesterol in a healthy way. I would suggest going to see a Naturopathic Doctor that can help guide you through this process and get you on the right diet with the right supplementation to get those bad cholesterol levels down and good cholesterol levels up!!!
