Yesterday I was attempting to close some blinds in my house, and had to reach over a table and go on my toes to reach it. All of a sudden there was an immense pain in my left calf (almost like a extreme severe cramping), and it actually caused me to fall down. The pain seemed almost intolerable, and this solid pain reamined for a good five minutes. I tried to walk it off, but I could not walk, and could not even flex my foot. After that, the pain was still there, however only at about 1/4 of the initial. It is now the next morning, and I can walk, but I have to limp. This is bad news because I work in a restaurant that requires me to constantly walk fast. Any ideas of what happened? Or tips that might help? I've tried massaging, but It doesn't seem to help. Thank you!
It sounds like you had a VERY severe Muscle cramp. In really bad cases, you may feel pain in the affected muscle for several days after the cramp subsides. It will go away, but the muscle can ramin tight and painful for awhile. I use a heating pad to help relax the muscle.
Take an over-the-counter Potassium supplement from the pharmacy to avoid future cramps like these.
If/when you encounter these cramps, you should put the affected foot in a position behind you with your leg as straight as it can go, and allow your weight to flex the foot forward (toes trying to reach your shin). This stretches the muscles in your legs and calf and alleviates the pain fairly quickly.
