Depression, anxiety, cant get relief?

ive been suffering from Anxiety and Depression for a while. I'm on sertralin 200mg daily and .25mg alprazolam 3 times daily (for the last 6 months) and theres no big improvement. I still suffer major Anxiety every minute of the day, the only difference, its not painfully anxious like it was. I thought (maybe naively) that the meds would have a much greater effect but im still stook in a hole and my life is dictated by fear and anxiety. has anyone had the same experience or know of any more effective ways of dealing with it?
yes i have been suffering with anxiety for over five yaers now and it has also dictated my life through fear. i have been prescribed several different Medication which have had no real effect. I would however not give up, keep trying different medication untill you find the right one for you.
