you need the basics: basically the same requirements as a medical doctor in college/undergrad: biology, chemistry, physics, calculus. etc. You can do it in three years as opposed to 4 years. But you don't have to major in premed/predent. You just need the basics!

You don't need a BS degree. You can also have a BA. I went to A liberal arts school and either was optional. Didn't make a difference since I was accepted before I graduated.

GPA usually 3.2 or higher. Excellent score on DAT test.

Many classmates in first year dental school had other lives, other jobs, and other majors, some were married, most were not. My good friend is an oral surgeon and majored in food science in college.

four years dental school. More for specialists. Ortho add 3 years. Oral surgery can be 4-6 years more. Some school are more research oriented, others are technically oriented.

Starting job!!!! Ha! Are you going to work for somebody? Salary? Start new? Buy in/ buy out? Full time or part time? Private or clinic practice? Cosmetic practice? Implants? Too many variables by city and state. You can look these up on job websites. But I would say that the a dentist can make any where from $60,000 to $1,000,000 a year. It's not about the money. You should love working with your hands and with people. A job is a job. If you love it, dentistry can make you money. I've seen some really poor dentists.

Dentist job: to promote and maintain healthy oral environments. fillings, root canals, extractions, cleanings, dentures, partials, whitening. Also some general dentists are educated in orthodontics and implant dentistry. Dentist jobs also include public oral health opportunities, teaching, etc. If it were that simple that would be great. But it's also about managing 2-20 different people and all their wonderful personalities. Figuring out taxes each quarter. And dealing with company after company. No one teaches you that stuff.

Did I talk about overhead? Now that's a different story...
