Dark red (going to purple) itching blister between little toe and toe number fou

I had itchy toes for the last couple of days but didn't really investigate. But now i had a proper look and discovered a fairly big dark red blister at the side of toe 4 where it touches the little toe. The whole toe 4 is bright red and hot. The blister is numb when I touch it and swollen. There is no visible wound.
It looks as well as if toe 4 "stands" on the little toe.
I am mainly walking around barefoot or in socks. When I am wearing shoes it is comfortable trainers.
Any idea what it is and what it coused it?

...much better now... still don't know what caused it, but after bandaging the toe, the blister and discolouration got much smaller now and toe's not itching anymore. I'm not diabetic, well below 40 and fit 'n healthy.
