WHats a good way to get rid of a really bad Cold soar? (Tried the little creams from the store, saltwater, and mouthwash)
It's surprising that nobody else has suggested this. Probiotics. These preparations contain large amounts of lactobacillus acidophilus and if they also contain lactobacillus bifidus, so much the better.
One buys these as capsules or tiny envelopes of powder in the refrigerated section of the health food store or pharmacy. Each capsule or envelope should contain a minimum of 10 billion live lactobacilli cells. Check the date stamp - product should be fresh.
Where I live, one company manufactures edible portions in tiny one-ounce bottles that look and taste exactly like yoghurt, except that one bottle contains 50 billion cells, or as much l.acidophilus and l.bifidus as 10 quarts of regular yoghurt with live lactobacilli.
I was directed to these probiotics years ago by my young son's pediatrician. The child had small cracks at the corners of his Mouth, not Cold Sores. The problem cleared up perfectly.
Years ago I had a friend who used to get cold sores on his mouth. In his case it was a reaction to strong sunlight. He was one of those people who complain about their ailments, then when somebody proposes an inexpensive simple remedy they moan on about O, No, It'll Never Work I've Tried Everything I Just Have To Suffer. Eventually, though, he broke down and bought some probiotic preparation. It worked perfectly. He was enchanted. Forever after, whenever he felt a Cold sore coming on - apparently the outbreak is preceded by a tingling sensation in the area - he would stop it cold turkey with a couple of days of probiotic capsules.
These preparations are not expensive. One takes them on an empty Stomach. To begin with, something like one in mid-morning (don't eat right away) and a second one in mid-afternoon or before bed. One could increase the dose to 3 per day.
Probiotics are beneficial for a lot of complaints, including certain viral and yeast infections - and your cold sore is a Herpes I viral Infection - plus they are helpful for countless gastro-intestinal disorders and they are said to even lower LDL, the "bad" cholesterol.
They are not drugs, they're nutraceuticals. There's a lot of research in this area.
Good luck to you, and hope this might be of some help.
