current uk guidance is tc < 5 for all except those with coronary Artery bypass grafts who should be < 4. HDL > 1 , the higher the better. Trigs < 3 ( although not so important and varies lots with recent food intake).
It is now TC levels that are used to guide treatment whereas previously it was chol/hdl ratios.
Statin treatment is still recommended if high risk irrespective of cholesterol level though as reduces risks through other means also e.g. by stabilising deposits in vessels.
