I had about 2 Cold Sores on my lips so far. So that means i have Herpes type 1. I don't know How I got them. I am not sexually active right now, nor i gave an Oral Sex or recieved an oral sex from someone, or kissed anyone before. But my question is if in the future I get married, Will I be able to have sex and have Children ?
About 80% of the world has Cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1). It's really not as uncommon as most people think.
Cold sores and Genital Herpes are two different types of the virus and are spread different ways. They are both herpes and both herpes simplex virus 1 and herpes simplex virus 2 can cause both cold sores and genital herpes. Cold sores are typically herpes simplex virus 1 though, while herpes simplex virus 2 is typically genital herpes.
If you have cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) you should have NO problem having sex or having children. It's possible that you can give your future boyfriends or husband cold sores and even your future children cold sores though. Cold sores are usually passed by kissing someone, but you can also get them from sharing a drink with someone who has cold sores or even chap stick, lip stick, or a cigarette. So if you were to kiss one of your future children you could pass it to them.
Genital herpes (herpes simplex virus 2) is transmitted by sex and direct Skin to skin contact. Since you don't have HSV2 you don't have to worry about this. Even if you did have it, chances of you passing it to a future child through childbirth are very slim. I've read less than 1% of babies born to mothers with genital herpes actually get the virus.
