In 20 minutes?
I felt low and was 66, I got distracted with something else, tested again 20 minutes later (without Eating anything) and was 118. What is up with this mess!?
And yes, my Glucose meter is working and I got both readings twice (I was surprised So i checked twice both times).
Hey Oceanblue,
Your liver is the main organ of the body in glucose metabolism / regulation. If your Blood sugar was 66 -- chances are your Brain was already perceiving a shortage of glucose "up ahead" and triggered the liver to release glucose into your blood.
As long as you didn't have Medication onboard impairing your liver from releasing the glucose (injected insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents can do this) -- your body is able to correct your blood sugar to "normal" levels. Typically the liver stores "2 hours" worth of energy - in the event there is a shortage of glucose in the body. Thereafter the body begins to breakdown fat stores and uses ketone bodies for energy. Note -- this is not necessarily a dangerous thing, especially if the level of sugar in the blood stream is *normal*.
Don't worry about the response of your liver. It's not a mess at all. It's a beautiful thing. If your sugar was 66 and you had DID have insulin / oral meds lowering your blood glucose further... that's the REAL mess to behold :(
