Ischemia means a lack of oxygen to tissues. Ischemic colon is large intestine that isn't getting enough oxygen, probably because the Blood supply is inadequate.

Ischemic colon requires imediate medical attention. The cause must be determined, and this may require emergency exploratory surgery. When the bowel starts to die, it can be fatal. It is usually curable with surgery. Dead bowel will have to be removed.
