I have Blood type A and I may need transfusion after my operation. My mom has blood type A, and My dad has AB. My cousin Ricky has type O, and my other cousin AJ has type B.
Who could possibly give me blood? Please name all options, I need to fill out a form.
Are you A positive or A negative? I need to know the Rh factor ( positive or negative) to give you a correct answer.
Your mom and Ricky are possibe donors but without knowing the Rh factor, it is impossible to give you a correct answer.
If you are Rh positive (+) you can receive Rh (+) and Rh (-) .
If you are Rh negative(-) you can ONLY receive Rh (-).
If you are A+, you can receive A-, A+, O+, O- blood
If you are A-, you can receive A- and O- blood.
The blood bank will test both you mom and Ricky but will most likely give you group A blood ( according to your Rh factor) over O blood. O negative (-) is reserved for emergency situations where there is NO time to do a cross-match for blood typing. O negative is the universal donor ( donate blood to any blood type) but can receive ONLY O- blood.
