Genital warts are treatable but the virus that causes them is not curable. Genital warts doesn't cause HPV, it's actually the other way around. HPV can cause genital warts, and hand and feet warts. It can also cause cervical cancer, penile cancer, anal cancer and neck cancer. There is no cure for HPV because it is a virus. The only thing you can do is treat the symptoms from HPV. Some people (and this is really rare) can actually get rid of the virus, but again, this is pretty rare. Females should get a pap smear done at least once a year, especially if they know they have the virus. Getting a pap smear every year can help prevent cervical cancer which kills 300,00 women a year. A pap smear can detect abnormal cells on the cervix which can lead to cervical cancer.
