I received this broken rib / floating rib about 2 years ago and never saw a Dr. it occured when i fell of my dirtbike. this floating rib is the very last rib by the belly button it is on my left side so the other side is fine.I can notice there is something wrong because that rib sticks out more than the other side about an inch more. I remember that i was in alot of pain it would hurt when i would try to laugh. im not sure but i think the pain went away like in a month or two. It dosent hurt anymore but it has never gotten hit hard like a football player would tackle me right in the ribs. Would those rib protectors be sufficient protection to play high school football. Are there any dangerous things that could happen to this part of my body if I get tackled there what is the worst thing that could happen. >

I would like to point out when i fell off my dirtbike i was going about 40mph i hit some kind of bush and the reaction was that i flew over the handle bars and my rib must off hit the floor first before any other part of my body. Maybe this will help in deciding the severity of the injury.
There is No Such Thing As floating ribs (i mean ribs taht actually float in the body)
a person had true ribs and false ribs
true ribs are ribs that attach on the sterum
falses ribs are ribs that are attached through other ribs.
everyone has both of these. you have 12 true ribs and like 4 false ribs.
so yes you can play football. just wear protection.
